Trevor's Percussion Pick
The S3TDS has quickly become one of my favorite instruments for use in concerts and auditions alike. The synthetic head makes it perfect for use in various environments without losing tension. The lightweight shell combined with the aged brass jingles make it perfect for a crunchy and complex timbre at soft dynamics. I've used it in concert on Britten's Four Sea Interludes, Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker, Stravinsky's Petrushka, John Williams' Tango Por Una Cabeza, and much more!
Artist Q&A
What is the oldest BSP instrument you own? What was your first?
I inherited an old TD3 German Silver Tambourine from my teacher and mentor, Tim Adams, that was one of the first that Eric Sooy created!
What does your typical practice routine look like? Do you have a favorite place to practice?
While in college, I would practice about 6-8 hours a day, splitting my time into 10-minute increments and dividing it across timpani, snare, mallets, accessories, hand percussion, and drum set.
What is your favorite practice technique? Anything creative or out of the ordinary?
I regularly play through all of the Peters snare drum etudes on tambourine, triangle, cymbals, and bass drum. This is something that my teachers did and something that I make my students do as well.
What is your favorite performance memory?
One of my favorite performance memories was recording a special for Disney Plus alongside Christina Aguilera and Halle Bailey for the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World on the Magic Kingdom Stage which. However, I've created most of my favorite memories by performing in other countries around the world, from my experiences as guest timpanist in Moscow, to my marimba concerto solos in Canada, to my trio performances with Lineage Percussion in South Africa.
What inspires your creativity?
I draw my creativity from my incredible network of friends, colleagues, teachers, mentors, students, and family members. I continue to learn from all of them everyday.
