Sound Plate Mounting Options

Option 1: Mounting on a Cymbal Stand

  1. Place a felt washer on the cymbal stand post.

  2. Slide the sound plate onto the stand using the larger, center mounting hole.

  3. Add another felt washer on top to reduce sustain.

  4. Secure with a wingnut—avoid over-tightening to allow natural resonance.

Option 2: Suspending with Mounting Cable

suspending a sound plate

  1. Thread the included mounting cable through the two mounting holes.

  2. Knot the ends of the cable together tightly. Three knots are recommended for security.

  3. Suspend the sound plate from the cable using your preferred mounting system.

Note: You can also play the sound plates on any flat surface. But you already knew that, yeah?

Sound Plate Rivet Installation

  1. Place the sound plate on a flat, sturdy surface.

  2. Insert a rivet into each of the three smallest holes at the top, left, and right of the sound plate, ensuring the tips face upward.

  3. Use a flat-head screwdriver to widen the rivet by gently rocking the tool between the rivet tips.

    • Tip: Ensure the rivet tips are spread wider than the hole to keep them securely in place.

Testing & Quality Check

  • Sound Testing Procedures: Strike the plate to confirm it resonates clearly without unwanted dampening.

  • Common Issues to Watch For:

    • Rivets not widened properly, causing them to jump out when played.

    • Over-tightening of mounting hardware, reducing sustain.

    • Mounting cable coming undone, leading to instability.

  • Adjustments if Needed:

    • Further widen rivets using a screwdriver or another tool.

    • Add or remove felt washers to modify sustain.

    • Add additional knots to the mounting cable for extra security.

Black Swamp Sound Plates bring a new sonic dimension to your setup with their distinct metallic character and versatility. Whether mounted on a cymbal stand or percussion rack, they provide unique tonal possibilities that can enhance any performance.
