Meet the Composer

Joe W. Moore III is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Texas Arlington. He has held teaching positions at the University of Louisiana Monroe, Benedict College, and the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. He holds degrees from the University of Central Florida, the University of South Carolina, and Louisiana State University. An active performer and composer, Moore is a member of several percussion ensembles, with performances across the U.S. and internationally. His compositions are published by C. Alan Publications and others, with many self-published works available online.

Composition Notes

Spellbound was commissioned by Black Swamp Percussion in 2024 to feature the sounds and orchestrations of Black Swamp instruments. The MultiBass drum and brand new Sound Plates are featured as the key instruments in the work. Blending sounds of metal, wood and drums in a groove that spins in and out of mixed meters and subdivisions. Casting a spell on the listener as it were.
